Clear explanations of how refunds and cancellations work — by fare type, by scenario and by airline.
This Refund & Cancellation Policy explains how cancellations and refunds work when you book travel through TodayDTravels. Because we are an independent travel agency, the refund you receive on a booking is largely determined by the operating airline's published fare rules and contract of carriage. Our role is to coordinate the cancellation with the airline, process any refund the airline issues, and act as your advocate where there's flexibility.
Under US Department of Transportation rules, airlines selling tickets in the United States must either:
This applies provided the booking was made at least 7 days before the scheduled departure. If you booked your flight within the last 24 hours and your departure is more than a week away, you are very likely eligible for a full refund — call us immediately on +1-833-522-7214 to confirm and initiate the cancellation.
If you purchased a refundable fare (sometimes called "flexible" or labelled with refundable fare classes like Y, B or F), you can cancel at any time before departure and receive a full refund of the fare to the original payment method. Refundable fares cost more upfront but offer maximum flexibility. Refunds for refundable fares are not subject to airline cancellation fees, though our agency service fee still applies.
The majority of fares sold in the US economy market are non-refundable. If you cancel a non-refundable ticket voluntarily:
Basic Economy is generally non-refundable and non-changeable after the 24-hour risk-free window. If you cancel a Basic Economy fare outside the 24-hour window, no refund or travel credit is typically offered. The exception is the 24-hour rule (above), which still applies.
If the airline cancels your flight, or makes a significant schedule change that you choose not to accept, US DOT rules require the airline to offer a full refund to your original payment method — even on non-refundable tickets. Significant changes typically include:
In these cases, you have a choice: accept the new schedule, rebook on a different flight at no additional cost, or take a full refund. See our Schedule Change page for full details.
Some airlines provide refunds (or fee waivers) in cases of:
Each airline has its own policy and documentation requirements. We can help you submit the request, but the final decision rests with the airline.
Refund processing times vary by airline and payment method:
Please note these timelines are estimates set by the airline and your card issuer — TodayDTravels does not control how quickly the refund is posted to your account.
TodayDTravels charges a small service fee for processing each booking, change and cancellation. The service fee is generally non-refundable, as it covers the work our agents do to process your request. The exception is when the cancellation is caused by the airline (e.g. flight cancellation, significant schedule change) — in such cases we waive our service fee.
Service fees are disclosed to you before you authorise any transaction.
If your booking contains multiple flight segments and you've already used one or more of them (e.g. you flew the outbound and want to cancel the return), refund eligibility is calculated based on the value of the unused portion under the airline's fare rules. This typically requires re-pricing the used portion as a one-way fare, with any difference deducted from the refund. We'll explain the calculation before proceeding.
If you booked using frequent flyer miles, refunds are processed in miles back to your loyalty programme account. Any cash co-pay (taxes, fees, surcharges) is refunded to the original payment method. Mileage reinstatement fees may apply depending on the airline.
If you purchased travel insurance with your booking, your policy may cover additional expenses beyond what the airline refunds. To file an insurance claim, contact the insurance provider directly using the contact information in your policy documents. We can assist with documentation.
If you have a refund-related concern, please contact us first on +1-833-522-7214 so we can investigate and resolve it. Filing a chargeback with your card issuer before contacting us can delay resolution and may result in the dispute being closed without a refund if the airline's fare rules don't support one.
The following are generally non-refundable, regardless of fare type:
